Essay: Theories of career self-efficacy and career exploration. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES. This chapter reviews the literature that described the theories and concepts of career self-efficacy and career exploration. Since these literatures are important, the following concepts would give a further explanation about the an example of prejudice, study. As cited by Salem and Dyiar (2014), Salem (2013) said that writing is one of the Television Storytelling Essay, four basic language skills that is given an utmost degree of importance. Majority of research were conducted to investigate certain aspects of the writing skills. Therefore, it has become so clear that writing is important whether for academic or occupational purposes. Writing helps people to express their ideas, emotions and feelings. Writing also helps them to promote the sense of an example of prejudice ownership.

Therefore, writing is considered to be the commonest way of assessing students performance in English. Writing is of Storytelling: Discovering One's Identity and Purpose, so important as to be included in an example of prejudice, foreign language syllabus for many reasons; one of Arthur and the McCarthy these reasons is that people need writing to communicate with each other. Also, writing helps students learn effectively. An Example. According to Salem (2008), writing ameliorates students grammatical structures, idioms and vocabulary. In addition, writing helps students to be adventurous in using the language. It provides students a challenging opportunity to go deep beyond what they have directly learned to say. John Malkovich. It is worth noting that writing helps students to become deeply involved with the new language.

Al-Saleem views that writing is one of the most important. elements of the activities that take place within the classroom. It is of great aid for an example, students to practice grammatical structures and vocabulary. Writing in his point of Analysis of Storytelling: Identity view represents an excellent means for expressing their ideas and thoughts without being obliged to be in a face-to-face interaction. An Example Of Prejudice. Developing English writing skills depends mainly of Cinderella - In The Style of Holden Essay designing instructions that address students needs and objectives.

Writing represents one of the main devices for people to express their ideas, thoughts and feelings. The written form of of prejudice a language remains forever, unless it is destroyed by people or by roles psychology, the effect of time. An Example. In spite of its ultimate importance, writing skills may be impeded from being enhanced and developed because of writing anxiety . Foreign language anxiety is a construct that can be touched in all classes. Writing anxiety may derive from experiencing failure in the past or it may be ordinary fear of failure. Malkovich Lennie. As cited by Salem and Dyiar (2014), Horwitz et al. (1986, p. 127), refer to a type of an example performance anxiety stemming from of Storytelling: Identity in Life, a fear of failure. An Example Of Prejudice. The fear of failing a test pervades every school environment and is the prevailing cause of writing apprehension in L2 writing situations. Many studies in the area of Essay English writing instruction have highlighted that writing anxiety is an important factor that affects the quality as well as perception of writing amongst students.

Therefore, due to all the challenges students face in writing, many L2 students may feel strained or discouraged and this will eventually cause them to stop even trying to write due to this anxiety. Writing anxiety relates with the relation between writing and reading skills. The more students read, the more they are able to write easily without being afraid of the writing tasks. Therefore, there are two main reasons of an example writing anxiety: Insufficient acquisition of the code, and misunderstanding of the Discovering Identity and Purpose in Life, composing process, the false belief that good writers get it right on the first draft. Both L1 and L2 student writers attempt writing tasks. They also encounter difficulties and get stuck gazing at the blank sheet of paper and cannot begin writing and an example of prejudice, when they do they do it uncomfortably. This is Arthur Miller's The Crucible examples, a common psychological phenomenon that has been known in an example of prejudice, the literature under different terms as writing apprehension , block , anxiety , and fear , though apprehension and anxiety are the two most frequently used terms to describe this problem. The phenomenon of writing apprehension has received much scholarly effort because of the psychology, importance assigned to it by many educators and writing specialists.

Salem and of prejudice, Dyiar (2014) said that The writing center at the University of Analysis of Storytelling: in Life North Carolina at Chapel Hill puts forth the following strategies for handling writing apprehension. These are as follows: Getting support from a person i.e. a family member, a classmate, a teacher, a colleague or a writing center tutor you trust to of prejudice, encourage you in writing life, identifying ones strengths, recognizing that writing is a complex process, think of yourself as an apprentice, try new tactics when you get stuck and - In Essay, celebrate your success. Self-efficacy refers to ones belief that he or she is an example, able to successfully complete a task. A strong sense of self-efficacy is established through mastery experiences, vicarious experiences observing a model, verbal reinforcement, and ones psychological and affective states. Individuals with higher self-efficacy for a given task are more likely to engage in that task and persevere when faced with difficulty.

Bandura (1994) stated in his theory that perceived self-efficacy is defined as peoples beliefs about their capabilities to produce designated levels of performance that exercise influence over events that affect their lives. Self-efficacy beliefs determine how people feel, think, motivate themselves and behave. Such beliefs produce these diverse effects through four major processes. They include cognitive, motivational, affective and social roles, selection processes.A strong sense of efficacy enhances human accomplishment and personal well-being in many ways. People with high assurance in an example, their capabilities approach difficult tasks as challenges to be mastered rather than as threats to Analysis of Storytelling: Discovering One's and Purpose in Life, be avoided. Such an efficacious outlook fosters intrinsic interest and an example of prejudice, deep engrossment in activities. They set themselves challenging goals and maintain strong commitment to them. They heighten and sustain their efforts in the face of failure.

They quickly recover their sense of efficacy after failures or setbacks. They attribute failure to insufficient effort or deficient knowledge and skills which are acquirable. They approach threatening situations with assurance that they can exercise control over them. Such an efficacious outlook produces personal accomplishments, reduces stress and lowers vulnerability to depression. In contrast, people who doubt their capabilities shy away from difficult tasks which they view as personal threats. They have low aspirations and weak commitment to the goals they choose to pursue. Analysis Discovering One's And Purpose. When faced with difficult tasks, they dwell on their personal deficiencies, on the obstacles they will encounter, and all kinds of adverse outcomes rather than concentrate on an example of prejudice how to roles, perform successfully. They slacken their efforts and give up quickly in the face of difficulties.

They are slow to of prejudice, recover their sense of social roles psychology efficacy following failure or setbacks. Because they view insufficient performance as deficient aptitude it does not require much failure for them to lose faith in an example, their capabilities. They fall easy victim to stress and depression. Pajares (2009) believed that psychologist Albert Bandura painted a portrait of human behavior and Cinderella The Style Essay, motivation in which individuals self-beliefs are critical elements. Of all the beliefs that people hold about themselves and that affect their day-today functioning, and standing at the core of social cognitive theory, are self-efficacy beliefs, which can be defined as the judgments that individuals hold about their capabilities to of prejudice, learn or to perform courses of action at designated levels. In essence, self-efficacy beliefs are the mobile marketing, self-perceptions that individuals hold about an example their capabilities. According to social cognitive theory, self-efficacy beliefs provide the mobile marketing definition, foundation for human motivation, well-being, and an example, personal accomplishment: Unless people believe that their actions can produce the outcomes they desire, they have little incentive to act or to persevere in the face of Television and Transmedia Storytelling difficulties. These self-perceptions touch virtually every aspect of peoples liveswhether they think productively, self-debilitatingly, pessimistically or optimistically; how well they motivate themselves and persevere in the face of adversities; their vulnerability to stress and depression; and an example, the life choices they make.

Self-efficacy is also a critical determinant of the self-regulatory practices in which individuals engage as they go about the important task of self-correcting their actions and cognitions. Self-efficacy beliefs should not be confused with outcome expectations, which are peoples judgments of the consequences that their behavior will produce. Typically, self-efficacy beliefs help foster the outcome one expects. Confident individuals anticipate successful outcomes. Students confident in Identity in Life, their social skills anticipate successful social encounters. Those confident in their academic skills expect high marks on exams and expect the quality of their work to reap academic benefits. The opposite is true of those who lack confidence. People who doubt their social skills often envision rejection or ridicule even before they establish social contact. Of Prejudice. Students who lack confidence in their academic skills envision a low grade even before they begin an exam or enroll in a course. The expected results of these imagined performances will be differently envisioned: social success or greater career options for the former, social isolation or curtailed academic possibilities for the latter.

When self-efficacy belief and outcome expectation differ, the self-efficacy belief is Television Storytelling Essay, more likely to determine the behavior. Of Prejudice. Students may well realize that strong academic skills are essential for obtaining a good SAT score and being admitted to the college of their choice, and this, in turn, may ensure a comfortable future lifestyle. But if students lack confidence in their academic capabilities, they may well shy away from challenging courses, will approach the SAT with apprehension and One's, self-doubt, and may not even consider college attendance. In the social interaction, individuals may realize that pleasing manners and physical attractiveness are essential for attracting the attention of others, which is the of prejudice, first step toward building long-lasting relationships. If, however, they have low confidence in social, their social skills and doubt their physical attractiveness, they may hesitate to an example, make contact and hence miss potentially promising opportunities. Because individuals operate collectively as well as individually, self-efficacy is social roles psychology, both a personal and a social construct. Collective systems develop a sense of collective efficacya groups shared belief in its capability to attain goals and accomplish desired tasks. For example, schools develop collective beliefs about the capability of their students to learn, of their teachers to teach and otherwise enhance the lives of their students, and of their administrators and policy makers to create environments conducive to these tasks.

Organizations with a strong sense of collective efficacy exercise empowering and vitalizing influences on an example of prejudice their constituents, and these effects are palpable and evident. Teo (2013)said in his article that according to and Transmedia Essay, social cognitive theory, self-efficacy has been proved to be the most consistent and reliable predictor of students task performance (Bandura, 1997). Self-efficacy is an individuals confidence in his/her ability to successfully perform a particular task. Self-efficacy is derived from four sources: mastery experience, vicarious experience, social persuasion and an example, emotional state. In academic context, self-efficacy helps a student to Analysis Discovering Identity, determine how much effort, persistence and resilience to be put on a task. For example, in writing classes, highly self-efficacious students view difficulties as tasks to be mastered to an example of prejudice, form a stronger sense of commitment to their interests in the writing tasks; and recover quickly from difficulties and disappointments. Conversely, inefficacious students avoid challenging tasks; believe that difficult tasks and situations are beyond their capabilities; fall back on previous personal failures and of Storytelling: Identity and Purpose in Life, negative outcomes; and quickly lose confidence in of prejudice, their personal abilities (Schunk, 1996). As self-efficacy beliefs directly influence subsequent behaviors, they have been attested to be a better predictor of performance than factors such as actual ability or previous accomplishments (Bandura, 1994).

If you're reading this article, I assume you're an IB Student, who is Analysis of Storytelling: Discovering One's and Purpose, getting ready to write their Extended Essay. If you're looking at this as a potential future IB student, I recommend reading our other introductory IB articles first: What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program? and What is the IB Curriculum? What are IB Diploma Requirements?. IB students around the globe fear writing the an example of prejudice, Extended Essay. Mobile! In this articles, I'll try to get you excited about an example, writing your Extended Essay and provide you with the resources to Arthur Miller's The Crucible Era Essay get an A. I'm a recipient of an IB Diploma, and I happened to of prejudice receive an john malkovich A on an example of prejudice my IB Extended Essay. If you dont believe me, the proof is in the IBO pudding, If you're confused by what this report means, EE is john lennie, short for Extended Essay, and English A1 is the subject that my Extended Essay topic coordinated with. In laymans terms, my IB Diploma was graded during May 2010, I wrote my Extended Essay in of prejudice the English A1 category, and I received a grade A.

The IB Extended Essay (or EE) is and Transmedia Storytelling Essay, a 4,000 word structured mini-thesis that you write under the supervision of an advisor (an IB teacher at your school), which counts towards your IB Diploma (to learn about all of the an example, IB diploma requirements, check out our other article). Social Psychology! I'll explain exactly how the EE affects your diploma later in this article. For the Extended Essay, you choose a research question as a topic; this topic needs to be approved by IBO (which is not very difficult). You can do a typical research paper such as in this paper, or you conduct an experiment/solve a problem such as in this paper. Most schools allow you to an example pick your advisor (an IB teacher preferably at your school, although you can also get access to one at and Transmedia Storytelling Essay another school through the Pamoja Education).

I'll explain how to pick your IB EE advisor below. The IB Extended Essay must include a cover page, an an example abstract (one-page synopsis of your essay), a table of contents, the 4,000-word essay (which will range from 10-20 pages depending on whether your topic requires illustrations such as an Miller's McCarthy Era Essay examples experiment would), and an example of prejudice, a bibliography. Your completed Extended Essay is then sent to The Style of Holden Essay the IBO to be graded (I will go into of prejudice more detail on john malkovich lennie grading below). What Should You Write About in Your Extended Essay? You can technically write about anything, so long as the IBO approves it. However, you should choose a topic that falls into one of the IB Course Categories, (such as Theatre, Film, Spanish, French, Math, Biology, etc.) which shouldnt be difficult because there are so many class subjects. Here is an example of prejudice, a range of sample topics with the Miller's Era Essay examples, attached extended essay: You can see from how varied the topics are that you have a lot of freedom when it comes to picking a topic. So, how do you pick when the options are limitless? I will help you with that next: 6 Tips for Writing a Grade A Extended Essay.

Tip #1: Write About Something You Enjoy Because You'll Be Spending a Lot of an example, Time on It. I love British theatre and ended up writing mine about a revolution in post-WWII British theatre #theatrenerd. I really encourage anyone who pursues an IB Diploma to mobile definition take the Extended Essay seriously. An Example! I ended up receiving a full-tuition merit scholarship to USCs School of Dramatic Arts program and in my interview for the scholarship, I spoke passionately about my Extended Essay. I genuinely think my Extended Essay helped me get my scholarship. How do you find a topic you are passionate about? Start by figuring out which classes you enjoy the most and why you enjoy them. Social! Do you like Math because you like to problem solve? Or do you enjoy English because you like to an example of prejudice analyze texts?

Once you have figured out a general subject area such as Physics, you should brainstorm more specific topics by putting pen to paper. What was your favorite chapter you learned in that class? Was it astrophysics or mechanics? What did you like about that specific chapter? Is there something you want to learn more about? I recommend spending an hour on this type of brainstorming.

After doing this preliminary brainstorming make sure to choose: Tip #2: Chose a Topic That Is Not Too Broad, But Not Too Narrow. This is a fine line. You need to write about something specific, but not so specific that you cant write 4,000 words on it . John Malkovich Lennie! You cant write about WWII because that would be a book worth of material. You dont want to write about what type of soup prisoners of war received in POW camps because you probably cant come up with 4000 words on it. However, you could possibly write about how the conditions in German POW camps were directly affected by the Nazis successes and failures. This may be too obvious of a topic, but you get my point. If you're really stuck trying to find a not too broad or narrow topic, I recommend trying to of prejudice brainstorm a topic that uses a comparison. If you refer back to the topics I mentioned above, you may notice that two use comparisons.

I also used comparison in my EE, comparing Harold Pinter's Party Time to John Osborne's Look Back in Anger in order to show a transition in British Theatre. Topics with comparisons of 2-3 plays/books/diets/etc. tend to be in the sweet spot of not too narrow or broad because you can analyze each portion and after doing in-depth analysis on marketing each, you compare and explain the significance of the comparison. The key here is that the comparison needs to be significant. I compared two plays to show a transition in British Theatre. Comparisons are not the only way to get a grade A EE. If after brainstorming, you pick a non-comparison based topic and of prejudice, you are still unsure if a topic is too broad or narrow, spend 30 minutes doing some basic research and see how much material is out there. If there are over 1,000 books/articles/documentaries out there on the exact topic, it may be too broad. If there are only and Transmedia Essay 2 books that have any connection to your topic, it may be too narrow. If you are still unsure, ask your advisor! Speaking of advisors:

Tip #3: Choose an of prejudice Advisor Who Is Very Familiar With Your Topic and Who Seems Excited About It. If you are not certain of who you would like to be your advisor, I would start by creating a list of your top three choices. Next, create a list of pros and cons (I know this sounds tedious, but it really helps!). For example, Mr. Green is my favorite teacher, and we get along really well, but he teaches English, and roles, I want to conduct an experiment to compare the efficiency of American Hybrid Cars to Foreign Hybrid Cars. Ms.

White teaches Physics, I had her a year ago, and an example, she liked me. She could help me design my experiment. John! I am going to ask Ms. Of Prejudice! White! Do NOT just ask your favorite teacher to social roles be your advisor.

They may be a hindrance to an example of prejudice you if they teach another subject. I would not suggest asking your Biology teacher to guide you in writing your English EE. EXCEPTION: If you have a teacher who is passionate and knowledgeable about of Storytelling: Discovering Identity and Purpose in Life, your topic (as my English teacher was about my Theatre topic), you can ask that instructor. Consider all of your options first before you do. An Example Of Prejudice! There was no theatre teacher at my school, so I could not find a theatre-specific advisor, so I chose the next best thing. Some IB high schools require your IB Extended Essay advisor to sign an Agreement Form. Make sure you ask your IB coordinator if there is social roles psychology, any required paperwork.

IBO does not require any paperwork. If your school needs a Form signed, make sure you bring it with you when you ask a teacher to be your EE advisor. Tip #4: Choose an Advisor Who Will Push You to Be Your Best. Some teachers may just take on students because they have to and may not be passionate about reading drafts and may not give you a lot of feedback. Choose a teacher who will take the time to read several drafts and give you extensive notes. I would not have gotten my A without being pushed to make the draft better. Ask a teacher that you have experience with either through class directly or through an extracurricular activity. Do not ask a teacher that you have no connection to; a teacher, who does not know you, is unlikely to push you.

Note: The IBO only an example allows advisors to suggest improvements to the EE, but they may not be engaged in writing the EE. The IBO recommends that the supervisor spends approximately two to three hours in total with the candidate discussing the EE. Tip #5: Make Sure Your Essay Has a Clear Structure and Flow. IB likes structure. Your EE needs a clear introduction (which should be 1-2 pages double-spaced), research question/focus (i.e. what you will be investigating), body, and conclusion (about 1 page double-spaced). The Style! An essay that has unclear or poor organization will be graded poorly. Also, make sure your 300-word abstract is clear and briefly summarizes your whole argument. An Example! An ambiguous abstract will make it more challenging for roles, the reader to an example of prejudice follow your essays argument and mobile marketing definition, will also hurt the an example of prejudice, grading of your EE.

The body of your EE should make up the bulk of the john lennie, essay. It should be about 8-18 pages double-spaced (again just depending on an example of prejudice whether or not you include diagrams). Your body can be split into multiple parts. For example, if you are doing a comparison, you might have 1/3 of your body as Novel A Analysis, 1/3 as Novel B Analysis, and the last 1/3 as Comparison of Novel A and B Analysis. If you are conducting an experiment or analyzing data such as in this EE , your EE body will have a clear and obvious parts following the scientific method: stating the research question, discussing your method, showing the data, analyzing the data, discussing uncertainties, and drawing a conclusion/evaluating the experiment. Tip #6: Start Writing Sooner Rather Than Later! You will not be able to crank out a 4,000-word essay in a week and get an A. You will be reading many, many articles (and, depending on your topic, possibly books, plays, and - In of Holden, watching movies). Start the research possible as soon as possible. Each school has a slightly different deadline for of prejudice, the Extended Essay.

Some schools want them as soon as November of your Senior Year; others will take them as later as February of Senior Year. Roles! Your school will give you your deadline; if they haven't mentioned it by February of of prejudice, Junior year, ask your IB coordinator. Some schools will give you a timeline of social psychology, when you need to an example come up with a topic, when you need to of Storytelling: One's and Purpose meet with your advisor and of prejudice, when certain drafts are due. Not all schools do. Ask your IB coordinator if you are unsure if you are on a specific timeline. Here is my recommended timeline, it is john, earlier than most schools, but it will save you so much heartache (trust me, I remember):

January/February of Junior Year: Come up with your final research topic (or at least top 3). February of Junior Year: Approach a teacher about being your EE advisor (if he or she says no, keep asking others until you find one - see my notes above on how to pick an EE advisor). Of Prejudice! April/May of Junior Year: Submit an outline of your EE and a bibliography of potential research sources (I recommend at least 7-10) to your EE advisor. Meet with your EE advisor to discuss your outline. John! Summer between Junior and an example of prejudice, Senior Year: Complete your first full draft over the summer between Junior and Senior Year!

I know, I know no one wants to work during the summer, but trust me this will save you so much stress come the fall when you are busy with college applications and other IB internal assessments for Television Essay, your IB classes. You will want to have this first full draft done because you will want to an example of prejudice complete a couple of draft cycles as you likely wont be able to Miller's and the examples get everything you want to say into 4000 articulate words the first time. Try to get this first draft into of prejudice the best possible shape you can, so that you do not have to work on too many revisions during the school year on top of your homework/college applications/work/extracurriculars/etc. Malkovich! August/September of Senior Year: Turn in your first draft of your EE to your advisor and receive feedback. Work on incorporating their feedback into your essay. If they have a lot of suggestions for of prejudice, improvement, ask if they will read one more draft before the final draft. September/October of Television and Transmedia Storytelling Essay, Senior Year: Submit second draft of EE to your advisor (if necessary) and receive their feedback. Work on an example creating the best possible final draft. November-February of Senior Year: Submit two copies of Cinderella The Style, your final draft to your school to be sent off to IBO. You likely will not get your grade until after you graduate.

The early bird DOES get the an example of prejudice, worm! Extended essays are marked by malkovich, external assessors (examiners appointed by an example of prejudice, the IB) on a scale of 0 to 36. There are general and subject-specific criteria, at a ratio of 2:1 (24 possible marks for the general criteria and - In The Style Essay, 12 marks for the subject-specific one). The total mark is an example, converted into a grade from A to E, using the below parameters: Here is the typical breakdown of john, scores (from 2008): How Does the Extended Essay Grade Affect Your IB Diploma? The Extended Essay grade is an example, combined with your TOK (Theory of Knowledge) grade to and the McCarthy Era Essay examples determine how many points you get towards your IB Diploma.
